Growing together in Christ
Helping children discover the Orthodox Christian faith through worship, Scripture, learning and loving fellowship.
Faith begins here
Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church offers Christian religious instruction to all school-aged children every Sunday morning during the school year, from September through June.
Our Sunday School program begins in the church at 10:00 a.m. with the Divine Liturgy. By participating in both worship and classroom instruction, children learn that faith is not simply a subject to study, but a life to be lived in Christ.
During the school year, September through June.
Children begin together in the Divine Liturgy.
Classes are available from preschool through the teen years.
Worship and learning
10:00 a.m.
The children begin Sunday morning worshipping with the entire parish community.
After the Gospel
Following the proclamation of the Holy Gospel, the children proceed to their classrooms.
Before Communion
The children return to church, where Fr. Theologos delivers a sermon especially for them, and then receive Holy Communion.
Until approximately noon
The children return to their classrooms and conclude their lesson when the Divine Liturgy ends.
A place for every child
Age-appropriate classes help every child engage with the Orthodox faith at the right level. Teen Talk offers older students robust discussions and activities that connect faith with the questions and experiences of teenage life.
Rooted in Orthodox tradition
Classes follow the curriculum provided by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada and are taught with love and dedication to Christ. Children explore the teachings of Christ through Holy Scripture, Bible study, the lives of the saints, feast days and the celebrations of the Church year.
Lessons and activities are designed to make the faith meaningful, memorable and appropriate for each stage of a child’s development.
Faithful guidance
Our teachers and classroom helpers are dedicated, faithful and experienced catechist volunteers who are guided by professional educators. They strive to provide effective and engaging materials in a warm, loving environment.
The enthusiasm of our students is a wonderful testament to the program. Many parents tell us that it is their children who wake them on Sunday morning, eager to attend church and Sunday School.
