Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church

Our History

A community rooted in Orthodox faith, strengthened through generations and united in worship.

About Our Church

Faith, community and belonging

For more than four decades, Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church has provided a spiritual home for Orthodox Christians throughout Mississauga and the surrounding communities.

Early 1980s

Our parish begins

Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church first opened its doors at the southwest corner of Dixie Road and Burnhamthorpe Road in Mississauga, Ontario.

A New Home

The move to Matheson Boulevard

After several years at its original location, our parish moved to its present home on Matheson Boulevard, where our church community has continued to grow and flourish.

Byzantine Tradition

Building a sacred space

The church was designed according to the traditional Byzantine architectural style of Orthodox churches. Its grand dome, supported by large columns, was inspired by the magnificent Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, completed in A.D. 537.

Sacred Art

Our church iconography

The church’s beautiful iconography was created by Florin Vlad, an accomplished master iconographer from Romania. Through sacred images, the interior expresses the faith and tradition of the Orthodox Church.
